Autism, also known as autistic disorder, is medically referred to as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is a developmental condition that affects social communication, behavior, and interests. Each person faces different challenges and requires varying levels of support. Autism represents a unique way of being. Having autism does not mean you have an illness or a disease. It simply means your brain functions differently from others. It is a spectrum, which means everyone’s experience is unique.

World Autism Awareness Day is observed annually on April 2. Established by the United Nations, it aims to raise public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with autism. This international day provides an important opportunity to reaffirm the dignity, rights and contributions of autistic individuals, and encourages all sectors of society to work together through dialogue and action to build a more inclusive world. April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day, and this year’s global theme is **“Autism and Humanity – Every Life Matters”.
