谈及教育差异，两人指出，西方教学更强调build社区氛围，鼓励学生讨论与表达；而在中国课堂中，学生更习惯听教授讲课，较少主动用英文发言。Stuart坦言自己偶尔会感到孤独，但因妻子是中国人，生活适应较为顺利；Richie则表示自己性格较有耐心，能够逐步融入环境。
关于在英国减少孤独的方式，Stuart提到喝酒是一种常见社交方式，Richie则更倾向通过社交媒体聊天维系联系。不过他们也指出，社交媒体在一定程度上让人减少外出交流，可能加深某种形式的孤立感。
Richie and Stuart, two British professors teaching English Language Academic Skills at XJTLU, shared their first impressions and teaching observations of China. They found China “very interesting,” with a social pace and cultural structure different from the West. Regarding educational differences, they pointed out that Western teaching emphasizes building a community atmosphere and encouraging student discussion and expression; while in Chinese classrooms, students are more accustomed to listening to lectures and less likely to speak up in English. Stuart admitted that he occasionally feels lonely, but because his wife is Chinese, he has adapted relatively smoothly; Richie said that he is more patient and was able to gradually integrate into the environment. Regarding ways to reduce loneliness in the UK, Stuart mentioned that drinking is a common way to socialize, while Richie prefers to maintain connections through social media chatting. However, they also pointed out that social media, to some extent, reduces people’s need for outings and interactions, which may deepen a form of isolation.
