I’ll give you a first-hand look at how tiring it is to be a transit passenger when traveling to the US (first, you need a visa).At 4 PM on July 20th, I arrived at Dubai International Airport and waited for my transfer. Since I didn’t have a visa, I had to stay in the airport. Here are some photos:机场里国际游客与本地航班人员（阿联酋人) 错综复杂, 阿拉伯语(Arabic)是当地主要的语言，当然英语作为国际通用和当地第二大语言，与别人交流起来并没有任何的问题。谈到货币一块，AED(迪拉姆) 相当于双倍人民币，迪拜环境很好，商品无税，但也不能摆脱其物价贵的现实，比如这一顿MD需要80rmb：The airport is a melting pot of international tourists and local passengers (Emiratis). Arabic is the primary language, and English, being both internationally spoken and the second most spoken language, ensures easy communication.Regarding currency, the AED (Dirham) is roughly equivalent to twice the Chinese Yuan. Dubai boasts a pleasant environment and tax-free goods, but its high prices are undeniable. At that time, China was still at war; how could they possibly build roads? We won’t go into the specifics of the journey, but the first thing I noticed when I saw Columbia University in NYC after getting off the bus was its simple and unpretentious design. The school has a main entrance, but this small gate is located next to a statue.显然与国内大学校门的高调的风格格格不入。This is clearly out of step with the high-profile style of university gates in China.经过简单的认识，我发现欧美国家的同龄学生普遍比我们成熟许多。我上的是意识形态讲课，由 Dr. Corner Smith讲授不同的ism，也就是不同的意识形态。我上课的地点：汉密尔顿。一个巨大同乡后的古老建筑。After a brief introduction, I found that students of my age from Europe and America were generally much more mature than us.I took an ideology lecture, taught by Dr. Corner Smith about different “isms,” or ideologies. My class was held in Hamilton, in an old building behind a huge hamlet.虽然是夏校，但我发现这所大学里面的学术氛围非常自由，没有人会指着你的观点反驳，任何理由都是可以被接受的。如果说国内大学已经开始注重综合实力和实践研究，那么国外一定是它的升级版（客观事实）这两周的多的时间，我们去了：(兼一些个人活动）Although it was a summer program, I found the academic atmosphere at this university to be very free. No one would point fingers at your opinions, and any reason was acceptable. If domestic universities have begun to focus on comprehensive strength and practical research, then overseas universities are definitely an upgraded version (an objective fact). During these two weeks, we went to: (and participated in some personal activities).帝国大厦Empire State Building古根海姆艺术博物馆 Guggenheim Museum自由女神 Statue of Liberty中央公园 Central Park时代广场 Times Square洛克菲勒中心(教堂) Rockefeller Center (Church)斯洛文尼亚大使馆(并与大使交谈) The Slovenian Embassy (and spoke with the ambassador).联合国总部United Nations Headquarters以及内部许许多多的地方，不再赘述，放一张中国外交官耿爽开会的地方：And many other places inside, which I won’t go into detail about. Here’s a picture of where Chinese diplomat Geng Shuang holds meetings:人道是美利坚是自由国家。Indeed，是的，很多地方都在游行，但实际上游而不乱，没有人会因为看到标语而害怕，或是在地铁里遇到任何恐吓，宣讲甚至乞讨卖艺而退缩，这是习以为常的事情，但这并不是符合我国最终目标的事情。比如NY地铁Humanitarianism is a given that America is a free country. Indeed, there are demonstrations in many places, but they are conducted in a structured manner. No one is afraid of seeing signs or being intimidated, sermons, or even begging or busking on the subway. This is commonplace, but it is not in line with our ultimate goals. For example, the NY subway…讲师鼓励自由讨论，没有太多拘束，和本地文化一样The lecturer encouraged free discussion, with few restrictions, just like the local culture.总之，最后还是很幸运遇到这一群人，也许以后再也不会遇到，但这段经历将会永远保存在我的手机相册和我的海马体中。In short, I was very lucky to meet this group of people. I may never meet them again, but this experience will be preserved forever in my phone’s photo album and my hippocampus.有时我会想，学了讲政治形态的课并不是让我们与和我们不同形态不同文化的人产生隔阂，其目的在于增加我们的互相信任，以及能够更加充分的了解对方。具体来说，中美两国的博弈是必然的，这是不同的政治形态的较量，但这影响我们之间的文化输送以及交往吗？未必。住宿时我会和舍友谈论一些不同的意识形态问题，他们也会觉得不可思议，也会觉得好笑，但最终我们仍然是朋友，因为我们的天性是人类。Sometimes I think that taking courses on political systems isn’t meant to create barriers between us and people from different political systems and cultures; its purpose is to increase mutual trust and allow us to understand each other more fully. Specifically, the competition between China and the US is inevitable—it’s a contest between different political systems. But will this affect our cultural exchange and interaction?Not necessarily. When I live in a dormitory, I discuss different ideological issues with my roommates. They sometimes find it unbelievable, sometimes funny, but ultimately we remain friends because we are all human beings.
